Far too many Christians act like they’ve been called to live as an elite corps of the spiritually arrived who must now insulate themselves from the world. Make no mistake: that’s not God’s calling. Rather, they’ve been cleansed and commissioned to carry the gospel of peace to the world. Acts 10:36 says, “The message of Good News [is] that there is peace with God through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all.” That is the peacemaking to which Christians are called. And when they engage in that calling, they are actually doing God’s work for him. “They shall be called the children of God.”
